Between Us is a product designed by long-term breast cancer survivors to provide immediate comfort for women who have just been diagnosed. It was created through Affinityfilms, a nonprofit organization, by women who felt the forty-eight hour period following diagnosis was the most difficult time of the entire treatment phase and was largely un-addressed. This has since been substantiated by focus groups.
Every year 186,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer in the U.S. alone. The emotional impact upon first hearing the news is overwhelming and the way it usually works is that the news is delivered by a doctor or radiologist and then the patient is sent home, devastated. A week or two later, she comes back to the doctor to discuss the next step. That time period can be the loneliest, scariest time of her life! We created this first aid kit to provide immediate comfort to her during this trying period. There is no other product like this available.
Patients in our test audiences have been overwhelmingly supportive and grateful that their trauma is being acknowledged in such a comforting and practical manner. One woman described the kit as feeling like "a great big hug." Our goal is to get these kits into the hands of the thousands of women who need them as soon as possible, free-of-charge to the patient. Every three minutes, there will be another woman in this country who will receive the most devastating news of her lifetime. You can make their experience less painful by supporting this project.
